Getting Married in New York City

Planning to get married soon? Why not take your vows in New York City, a city of glamour and romance? New York offers a variety of romantic, yet modern option to getting hitched. But before you tie the knot, there are a few loose ends to be taken care of.

Getting a Marriage License

Before you can get married, you will have to get a marriage license from the City Clerk of New York. They cost $35 (money order ONLY) and both the bride and the groom must be present at the time of issuing. You can obtain a license at one of New York City's borough offices. Locations are as follows:

All locations are open weekly from 9:00am to 4:00pm, except the Manhattan location, which is open from 8:30am to 4:00pm.

Make sure to bring proper identification, which includes:

  • A passport
  • Driver's license, learner's permit or non-driver ID
  • Military ID
  • U.S. Certificate of Naturalization
  • U.S. Alien Registration Card, or
  • Employment Authorization Card
Blood test is not required.

Your license will be good for 60 days, but if you fail to get married within this time period your license will expired and you will be required to purchase a new one. There is also 24-hour waiting period before your marriage ceremony can actually be preformed.

New York offers a wide variety of interesting alternatives for walking down the aisle. Historic sites include: Carnegie Hall on 7th Avenue, Gotham Hall on Broadway, The Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue, the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, and of course, Central Park. Many of the local five-star hotel establishments also offer spacious banquet halls that can easily be converted to house your dream wedding.

Transportation

From horse drawn carriages to exotic rental cars, New York has the type of transportation needed to make your wedding day memorable. Competitive prices can be found for limousines, exotic rental cars, carriages, classic cars and even bicycles built for two. If you have friends and family flying in for your special day, they too can find competitively priced economy and exotic rental cars suited to their personal tastes.

Photography and Videography

Make sure to capture all your memories by hiring a personal photographer to document your wedding. Once in a lifetime photo opportunities await you at New York hot spots like the Empire State building, and Central park. You could even have your photographer capture you and your fiance in front of the Statue of Liberty.
